Many people in organisations are promoted because of their technical knowledge yet they may lack essential people skills. Then they are put into managerial and leadership roles and that's when the trouble starts. Although good at their previous roles, they have now surpassed their level of competence.

People need to develop their self-awareness and have the tools to manage themselves. They need to look at their whole life – not just the work side. Organisations can't just take care of the physical safety of their staff any more, they have to support the mental and emotional well-being of their people. And there are big benefits for doing so. Companies with resilience and wellness programs have shown to improve productivity, have less absenteeism and have better retention. It's not rocket science – the more you look after your staff, the more they'll feel committed to you and the better effort you'll get from them.

People need to understand that the mind and body are two sides of the same coin. You can't affect one without affecting the other. In order to avoid burnout, bounce back from tough times be productive and achieve peak performance you need to be functioning at your best physically, mentally and emotionally.
